Campbell provides boost to Sabres' offense
Charlotte Catholic transfer Josh Campbell has made an instant impact on the boys' lacrosse team at South early this season. The senior middie already has six goals in his first two games with the Sabres and has won a high percentage of his faceoffs. The highly recruited Campbell has committed to Stevenson University near Baltimore to play his college lacrosse. The Mustangs, who made the national semifinals last year, are currently ranked second in the country among NCAA Division III schools.

Boys, girls drop Monday night contests

South Meck's boys and girls lacrosse teams were in action Monday night, with the Sabres dropping a 12-7 decision at home to Butler and the Lady Sabres losing at Ardrey Kell, 10-4, in their season opener.

In the boys' game, Josh Campbell scored three times and Eli Morris, Jarrett Cook, Jordan Smith and Will Stewart contributed one goal apiece as South dropped to 0-2 on the young season. Andrew Lichacz and Andrew Colitti each had four goals for the Bulldogs, who moved to 1-1. Junior goalie Grayson Stricker made 17 saves in the nets for South.

Coach Brenna Houghton's Sabre girls couldn't overcome a four-goal night by AK's Carolyn Driscoll in losing their season opener. Scoring goals for South were Laura Orland, Katie Hodge, Skye Klink and Jackie Haenlein.

Next up for the Lady Sabres is a 6:30 p.m. game Tuesday at Providence. Coach Justin Garrison's boys will travel south of the border Wednesday for an 8 p.m. contest at Fort Mill High School.
