Lady Sabres roll over Cuthbertson for first win
Prompting a wild postgame celebration at Fred Boger Stadium, the South Mecklenburg girls lacrosse team got scoring from eight
different players in winning their first game of the season last Wednesday, triumphing 17-9 over the Cuthbertson Cavaliers.
Junior Kristen Reeder and senior Laura Orland scored four goals each to lead the Lady Sabres, but South also got two goals
each from senior Jackie Haenlein, junior Skye Klink and sophomore Elizabeth Schilling. Also getting into the scoring column
for South Meck were junior Katie Hodge, junior Kenzie Knox and sophomore Kathryn Zweier. It was sophomore goalie Suzanne Collins'
first win in the nets as a Lady Sabre.

Sabres fall at Fort Mill in high-scoring affair
The South Meck boys produced their highest offensive output of the season Wednesday night at Fort Mill High, but it wasn't
enough to beat the Yellow Jackets, who pulled away late with an 18-11 win. Junior attackman Parker Thomas scored six goals
for Fort Mill, which improved its record to 9-1 on the season. Senior Josh Campbell and junior Jordan Smith had three goals
and three assists apiece, while sophomore Eli Morris added another three goals. Freshman Andrew Madsen scored his first two
goals as a Sabre, and senior Jarrett Cook and sophomore Dylan Stewart each chipped in an assist, with Cook securing five groundballs.
Junior goaltender Grayson Stricker had 15 saves for South, which next plays at home Friday night against unbeaten Myers Park
in a 7 p.m. contest at Fred Boger Stadium.

South boys, girls drop pair of games Wednesday
The South Meck lacrosse teams came up short in a pair of games Wednesday night, with the girls losing at home to Marvin
Ridge 23-4 and the boys dropping an 11-5 decision at Butler.
The Sabre girls couldn't overcome a major offensive explosion
by Marvin Ridge sophomore Mikayla Sweeney, who had 10 goals in the twinight affair to help keep the Mavericks undefeated.
Jackie Haenlein, Skye Klink, Laura Orland and Kristen Reeder scored for South, which fell to 0-4.
Despite outshooting
Butler with 28 shots, the South Meck boys (0-3) fell to the Bulldogs for the second time in a week. Butler jumped out to a
6-1 halftime lead, but third-quarter goals by Jarrett Cook and Josh Bailey cut the margin to 6-3 heading into the final period.
Butler senior Andrew Lichacz scored two of his five goals in the fourth quarter, however, to help the Bulldogs pull away.
Bailey had two goals to lead South, with Cook, Shea Fadel and Jordan Smith also scoring. Cook also had an assist and led South
with eight groundballs. Junior goaltender Grayson Stricker had another good night in the nets for the Sabres, making 16 saves.
Next
up for the South boys is a Friday night game at home (7 p.m.) against defending state champion Providence. The Lady Sabres
will host Charlotte Catholic Monday night (6:30) at Fred Boger Stadium.

Girls lose on the road at Providence, 17-8
The South Meck girls fought hard but came up short Tuesday night at Providence, losing 17-8 to the Lady Panthers. Junior Kristen
Reeder did her best to keep the Lady Sabres in the contest, scoring a season-high five goals. Senior Jackie Haenlein chipped
in two goals and junior Skye Klink had one for South, which next plays Friday at home against Myers Park in a 6:30 p.m. contest
at Fred Boger Stadium.

Boys, girls drop Monday night contests
South Meck's boys and girls lacrosse teams were in action Monday night, with the Sabres dropping a 12-7 decision at home
to Butler and the Lady Sabres losing at Ardrey Kell, 10-4, in their season opener.
In the boys' game, Josh Campbell
scored three times and Eli Morris, Jarrett Cook, Jordan Smith and Will Stewart contributed one goal apiece as South dropped
to 0-2 on the young season. Andrew Lichacz and Andrew Colitti each had four goals for the Bulldogs, who moved to 1-1. Junior
goalie Grayson Stricker made 17 saves in the nets for South.
Coach Brenna Houghton's Sabre girls couldn't overcome a
four-goal night by AK's Carolyn Driscoll in losing their season opener. Scoring goals for South were Laura Orland, Katie Hodge,
Skye Klink and Jackie Haenlein.
Next up for the Lady Sabres is a 6:30 p.m. game Tuesday at Providence. Coach Justin
Garrison's boys will travel south of the border Wednesday for an 8 p.m. contest at Fort Mill High School.

Sabres drop home opener to Lake Norman, 13-6
Max Copeland scored four goals and Danny Brown added three as Lake Norman earned a hard-fought 13-6 win over the South Meck
boys in the Sabres' home opener Friday night. The victory completed a sweep of South Charlotte opponents for the week for
the Wildcats, who won at Ardrey Kell 9-6 two nights before. Senior middie Josh Campbell had a hat trick for South, scoring
three goals, while senior Jarrett Cook, junior Jordan Smith and sophomore Steven Mortensen tallied one each. Junior Grayson
Stricker was solid in the nets for South, stopping more than 20 shots. The Sabres are back at home Monday with a 7 p.m. game
against Butler.

South boys get win over Butler in annual Charlotte Lacrosse Jamboree
Coach Justin Garrison's Sabres got their first win of the season Saturday in the Charlotte Lacrosse Jamboree at Country Day
School, beating Butler 7-5 as senior middie Josh Campbell scored two goals in the game's waning minutes. South then lost to
Marvin Ridge and North Mecklenburg, but came back with a strong performance against Lake Norman Charter School before dropping
a close decision to the Knights.
